(VITA-FAST)

VITA-FAST is an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain that represents fractional ownership and governance rights over an Intellectual Property Non-Fungible Token (IP-NFT). This project is a collaboration between VitaDAO and the Viktor Korolchuk Lab at Newcastle University. The IP-NFT contains data and intellectual property rights for research into novel autophagy activators, which are compounds designed to clean cellular waste to combat aging. It stands as a pioneering example of IP Tokenization (IPT), allowing a community to hold a direct stake in how scientific research is commercialized and shared.

The project funds research at Dr. Viktor Korolchuk’s lab at Newcastle University. The primary focus is on identifying and developing compounds capable of reactivating autophagy. Autophagy is a critical cellular process for removing waste, and its decline is linked to various age-related conditions. Specifically, the research aims to treat general aging-related declines and targeted conditions such as Niemann-Pick Type C disease. This scientific endeavor bridges the gap between academic research and potential therapeutic applications through decentralized funding.

Holders of VITA-FAST possess governance rights, allowing them to participate in the decision-making process for the research project. This includes voting on which experiments to prioritize, deciding whether to license the resulting intellectual property to pharmaceutical companies, and determining how to manage research data and eventual commercialization. Governance typically occurs via informal discussions on community forums and formal token-weighted voting on designated platforms. It is important to note that holding these tokens is viewed as a contribution to scientific research rather than a traditional financial investment.

VITA-FAST can be traded on LBank and other decentralized exchange platforms on the Ethereum Mainnet. For storage, users can utilize the LBank wallet or any Ethereum-compatible digital wallet. When using a self-custody wallet, the token must be imported manually using its specific contract address. This ensures that participants can securely manage their tokens while engaging with the project's governance and ecosystem.

Participants face several risks, including scientific failure, as many drug discovery efforts do not result in patentable products. There is also liquidity risk due to the niche nature of Decentralized Science (DeSci) tokens, which can make trading larger amounts difficult. Additionally, the regulatory environment for tokens representing IP rights is complex and varies by jurisdiction. For example, individuals in certain regions may face restrictions due to local regulatory uncertainties. It is essential to understand that these tokens represent participation in a scientific pool rather than equity in a traditional corporation.

The project is currently advancing toward the 'drug translation' phase. This involves screening third-generation compounds and conducting in vivo (animal) model testing. These steps are critical for validating the research findings and preparing the data for potential future human clinical trials. The ultimate goal is to move the discovered autophagy activators from the laboratory setting into real-world medical applications, furthering the mission of longevity science and cellular health.
