Delisting, in essence, is the process of taking an asset off a trading platform. It can either be initiated by the project team voluntarily or enforced when the asset or its team no longer meets the listing criteria set by the exchange. In deciding on delisting, exchanges consider several factors, key among them being:

First and foremost, the overall commitment level of the project team is crucial. A proactive team that consistently updates their project fosters market trust, whereas lack thereof can trigger delisting alarms.

Secondly, the quality and activity of development efforts are closely scrutinized. Ongoing technological innovation, the stability of smart contracts, all directly influence the project's standing within the blockchain ecosystem.

Additionally, the communication prowess of the project team with the public plays a significant role. Transparency and frequent engagement bolster investor confidence, mitigating misunderstandings and panic.

Unresponsive or uncooperative behavior towards exchange due diligence requests also weighs negatively. This suggests potential underlying issues or poor management practices.

Evidence of any unethical or fraudulent conduct is particularly intolerable, as it directly contradicts the goal of fostering a healthy, sustainable blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Exchanges may further identify other unacceptable risks in continuing the partnership, such as compliance breaches or suspicions of market manipulation, leading to a delisting decision.

Once delisted, all associated trading pairs vanish from the exchange. However, this does not render the asset entirely illiquid; it may still trade on other exchanges, like decentralized ones, or through over-the-counter (OTC) transactions. Nevertheless, trading activities for the asset cease entirely on the original delisting exchange.

To safeguard user interests, even though trading functionalities are disabled, exchanges typically allow for a withdrawal period post-delisting. This ensures users have the opportunity to retrieve their funds stored on the platform, even if trading support is discontinued.
