What is ZETACOIN (ZET)?

Zetacoin (ZET) is an open-source, decentralized digital currency that commenced operations on August 3, 2013. It was designed based on the principles and protocol of Bitcoin, with an initial focus on achieving fast transaction speeds and ease of use. The original "Legacy Zetacoin" blockchain utilized the SHA256 hashing algorithm and featured ultra-fast block times. However, this design led to certain inefficiencies and made the network susceptible to vulnerabilities such as 51% attacks and unintentional forks. The project reportedly saw a period of abandonment around 2018, with its maintenance primarily carried out by a small group of dedicated enthusiasts. In late 2021, a team led by EWMCI initiated a significant transformation of Zetacoin. This involved a critical code upgrade that transitioned the currency to a Scrypt-based, hybrid consensus mechanism, incorporating both Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) protocols. The goal of this upgrade was to resolve the previous inefficiencies, bolster the blockchain's security against potential attacks, and enhance overall network reliability. The current Zetacoin network employs this hybrid PoW/PoS methodology for block validation, coin minting, and transaction processing. This approach aims to deliver the fast transaction capabilities of the original chain while providing improved security features. The integration of PoS also contributes to a more energy-efficient operation in the long term, by reducing the reliance on energy-intensive PoW mining hardware, though PoW remains a component to support network security and initial coin generation. Regarding its supply, the original design set a maximum limit of 160 million Zetacoins, with mechanisms like block halving intended to manage its issuance. However, the continued SHA256 mining led to an eventual oversupply. The new codebase, implemented during the 2021 transformation, drastically reduced the annual emission of new Zetacoins from 1 million to less than 50,000. Since 2018, Zetacoin has been integrated into the EWMCI Crypto Ecosystem, a platform dedicated to the development, infrastructure, and use cases for its participating cryptocurrency projects. ZETACOIN (ZET) FAQ

Zetacoin (ZET) is an early cryptocurrency launched in 2013, initially based on SHA256 for fast transactions. It experienced vulnerabilities due to rapid block times. To address this, a major code upgrade in late 2021 transitioned Zetacoin to a hybrid Proof-of-Work (Scrypt-based) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. This upgrade significantly enhanced its security and stability. Zetacoin is also part of the EWMCI Crypto Ecosystem.
Zetacoin achieves enhanced energy efficiency primarily through its Proof-of-Stake (PoS) component. While it retains a Proof-of-Work (PoW) element for initial minting and network security, its hybrid PoW/PoS design significantly reduces overall energy consumption. Unlike solely PoW-based cryptocurrencies that often require energy-intensive ASIC mining, Zetacoin's integration of PoS contributes to a lower environmental impact and more sustainable network operation.
Users can acquire Zetacoin (ZET) through several methods. One way is by purchasing it directly with fiat currency from specialized vendors. Another common method involves exchanging other cryptocurrencies for ZET on various digital asset platforms, such as LBank or similar exchanges. Additionally, individuals can earn ZET by selling goods or services through platforms that accept Zetacoin, like the EWMCI Shop.
Zetacoin's emission model underwent a significant reform after the late 2021 code upgrade. The annual issuance of new Zetacoins was drastically reduced from 1 million to just 50,000 coins per year, aligning with supply-demand dynamics. The initial maximum supply cap of 160 million Zetacoins had already been reached, leading to an oversupply problem under the old SHA256 mining mechanism. The updated codebase and emission schedule addressed this to create a more sustainable economic model.
Zetacoins can be stored in various compatible wallets. A critical consideration for storage is the chain migration that concluded on August 1, 2022. Only coins on the new Zetacoin chain, with addresses beginning with "9...", are currently supported. Legacy coins from the old chain, with addresses starting with "Z...", are no longer active. Therefore, users must ensure they use wallets that support the new chain, such as LBank Wallet or other specified compatible applications.
Zetacoin (ZET) and ZetaChain (ZETA) are distinct projects, despite their similar names and token tickers. Zetacoin is an older cryptocurrency launched in 2013, primarily functioning as a hybrid Proof-of-Work/Proof-of-Stake asset. In contrast, ZetaChain is a more recent Layer 1 blockchain focused on omnichain interoperability, aiming to connect various blockchains, including those without native smart contract capabilities. They serve different purposes and have different technological foundations.
