Zeta Markets is a decentralized exchange (DEX) built on the Solana blockchain, primarily focused on perpetual futures trading. It was founded in 2021 with the goal of providing a fast, efficient, and secure trading experience that mirrors centralized exchanges (CEXs) while upholding the principles of decentralization, such as self-custody and transparency. The platform specialized in perpetual trading contracts, which allowed users to employ leverage and take long or short positions on various cryptocurrency tokens without an expiration date. Zeta Markets utilized Solana's high-speed and low-cost infrastructure, an on-chain central limit orderbook (CLOB), and integrated with Serum's order book and Pyth's price feeds to enhance trading efficiency and accuracy. Key features included self-custody of assets, allowing users full control over their funds, and transparency through public blockchain visibility. Historically, Zeta Markets offered two main products: Zeta DEX for undercollateralized trading and Zeta FLEX for creating and auctioning customized, fully collateralized tokenized options. The project aimed to bridge the gap between traditional finance sophistication and blockchain innovation, making advanced trading strategies accessible. More recently, Zeta Markets announced the development of a DeFi Layer 2 (L2) solution on Solana called Bullet, with Zeta X (ZX) as its flagship decentralized application (dApp). Bullet is designed as a trustless Layer 2 for decentralized derivatives trading on Solana, intended to achieve the performance of a centralized exchange while maintaining the security and self-custodial nature of a DEX. The ZEX token, which serves as the governance token for Zeta Markets, is evolving into the BULLET token, which will be used for gas fees, node operations, and staking on the new Bullet network.
