What is ZETA (ZEX)?

Zeta (ZEX) refers to the native token of Zeta Markets, which was a decentralized exchange (DEX) built on the Solana blockchain. Zeta Markets aimed to provide a fast, simple, and secure platform for trading perpetual contracts, combining features of centralized exchanges with the transparency and self-custody of decentralized finance. The ZEX token was primarily used for governance and incentives within the Zeta Markets platform. Holders of ZEX could participate in governance decisions, proposing and voting on changes and upgrades to the protocol. Staking ZEX tokens also allowed users to earn rewards and gain additional governance rights. Zeta Markets employed a vote-escrow model, designed to reward those who staked their tokens for longer periods with greater governance power and incentives. Zeta Markets was founded by Tristan Frizza in 2021. However, Zeta Markets discontinued its operations in May 2025. Following this discontinuation, holders of the ZEX token were migrated to a new token called BULLET, under a new entity focused on Bitcoin yield strategies. Learn more

ZETA (ZEX) FAQ

Zeta (ZEX) was a decentralized exchange (DEX) on the Solana blockchain that offered leveraged perpetual trading. It aimed for efficiency similar to centralized exchanges while maintaining self-custodial security. It allowed up to 10x leverage with fast settlements and low fees, specializing in perpetual contracts.
Before its discontinuation, the ZEX token served three primary roles. It could be used for fee payments to reduce trading costs on the DEX. It also enabled governance, allowing holders to vote on protocol upgrades and parameters, such as leverage limits. Additionally, ZEX could be staked to earn a share of the protocol's generated fees.
Zeta Markets ceased operations in May 2025 primarily due to a combination of technical and market shifts. Key factors included Solana's network congestion issues experienced in 2024, which impacted the DEX's performance. Furthermore, there was an evolving institutional interest and shift towards Bitcoin-focused decentralized finance (BTCFi), prompting the project to pivot.
After Zeta (ZEX) was discontinued, its token holders were migrated to a new token called BULLET. This migration occurred under a new entity that shifted its focus to Bitcoin yield strategies. The process was designed to minimize disruptions for existing holders, who were advised to transition their ZEX holdings through approved platforms to receive the new BULLET tokens.
During its active period, ZEX tokens were frequently distributed through airdrops. Eligibility for these distributions was typically determined by user participation in Zeta's point programs, which often correlated with trading volume and other engagement activities on the platform. Users would connect their crypto wallets to an eligibility checker to verify and claim their allocated tokens, sometimes having options like "Immediate Claim" or "Diamond Hand Claim" for additional benefits like staking.
Zeta (ZEX) was a discontinued decentralized exchange on Solana specializing in perpetual contracts, halting operations in May 2025. In contrast, ZetaChain (ZETA) is a distinct, active Layer 1 blockchain focused on universal interoperability. ZetaChain enables smart contracts to interact across various blockchain networks, including non-smart contract chains like Bitcoin, without traditional bridges or wrapped assets, addressing different challenges than the original Zeta (ZEX).
