What is STARKGATE BRIDGED USDT (STARKNET) (USDT)?

StarkGate Bridged USDT is the official version of the Tether stablecoin on the Starknet network. It is created when users move their USDT from the Ethereum mainnet to Starknet using the StarkGate bridge, which is the native bridging protocol developed by StarkWare. This asset allows users to utilize the stability of USDT within the Starknet ecosystem while benefiting from the network's enhanced scalability and lower transaction fees. The bridging process operates on a lock-and-mint mechanism. When a user sends USDT from Ethereum to Starknet, the original tokens are locked in a secure smart contract on the Ethereum Layer 1. Simultaneously, an equivalent amount of StarkGate Bridged USDT is minted on Starknet Layer 2 and sent to the user's Starknet wallet. If a user wishes to move their funds back to Ethereum, the bridged tokens on Starknet are burned, and the original tokens are released from the Ethereum contract. Security for this project is anchored in the Starknet architecture. Unlike many third-party bridges that rely on external validators or multisig schemes, StarkGate uses mathematical proofs. The bridge's operations are verified by a verifier contract on the Ethereum mainnet, which ensures that the state of the bridge on Starknet is consistent with the assets held on Ethereum. This allows the bridged USDT to inherit the underlying security of the Ethereum blockchain. On the Starknet network, this bridged USDT is a core component of the decentralized finance ecosystem. It is widely used in liquidity pools, lending protocols, and as a medium of exchange across various decentralized applications. Users typically manage this asset through Starknet-specific wallets such as Argent X or Braavos. Because Starknet uses account abstraction, these wallets provide advanced features like multi-factor authentication and improved transaction signing compared to traditional Ethereum wallets. The project represents a critical piece of infrastructure for Starknet, providing a reliable and secure way for users to bring liquid stablecoin value into the rollup environment. It serves as a bridge not just for assets, but for users looking to transition from the high-cost environment of the mainnet to a more efficient and developer-friendly Layer 2 solution without losing the utility of a globally recognized stablecoin. STARKGATE BRIDGED USDT (STARKNET) (USDT) FAQ

StarkGate Bridged USDT is the version of the Tether (USDT) stablecoin transferred from Ethereum to the Starknet Layer 2 network via StarkGate, the official bridge developed by StarkWare. It operates using a lock-and-mint mechanism. The L2 contract address on Starknet is 0x068f5c6a61780768455de69077e07e89787839bf8166decfbf92b645209c0fb8, and the L1 Ethereum bridge address is 0xbb3400f107c7ad352482e1f2787140bc66747605.
To bridge USDT, you must visit the official StarkGate interface and connect both a standard Ethereum-compatible wallet and a supported Starknet-native wallet. Because Starknet utilizes account abstraction and a different address format, standard Ethereum wallets cannot be used directly on the network. The bridge process involves locking your USDT on Ethereum to mint the corresponding bridged version on Starknet.
Withdrawals typically take between 7 and 9 hours to complete. This duration is necessary because the Layer 2 state must be finalized and a validity proof must be submitted to and verified by the Ethereum Mainnet. Only after this verification is successful are the funds released on the Ethereum side, ensuring the security and integrity of the transaction.
Withdrawing USDT involves two distinct steps. After initiating the transaction and seeing it marked as 'Accepted on L2,' you must wait for the status to reach 'Accepted on L1.' Once this occurs, you must manually return to the bridge user interface and click 'Complete Transfer' to claim your funds on the Ethereum Mainnet. Some specialized Starknet wallets offer automated services to handle this second step for a fee.
Bridging involves fees on both layers: Ethereum gas fees for deposits, and both Starknet and Ethereum gas fees for withdrawals (to initiate the burn and claim the funds, respectively). Currently, network fees on Starknet must be paid in ETH or STRK. USDT cannot be used to pay for gas directly at this time, though future account abstraction features may introduce such functionality.
StarkGate is the official canonical bridge and has been audited by leading security firms, inheriting the security of Ethereum through validity proofs. However, bridged USDT carries smart contract risk. Regarding deposits, many centralized exchanges like LBank require specific network support. You should always verify if your exchange supports native Starknet deposits for USDT before sending funds; otherwise, you must bridge back to the Ethereum Mainnet first to avoid permanent loss.
