What is BASE BRIDGED SOL (BASE) (SOL)?

Base Bridged SOL is a digital asset that represents the native Solana token on the Base network. Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase, while Solana is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain. This token is created through a cross-chain bridge designed to facilitate the movement of assets and information between these two distinct ecosystems. The project is a collaborative development between the teams at Base and Chainlink. It relies on Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol to secure the communication between the two blockchains. This infrastructure uses a decentralized network of node operators to verify and validate transactions, ensuring that assets are moved safely without relying on a single centralized entity. Technically, the token operates through a lock-and-mint mechanism. When a user sends native SOL from Solana to Base, the original assets are held in a secure vault on the Solana side. The bridge then mints an equal amount of Base Bridged SOL on the Base network for the user. To return the assets to the original chain, the bridged tokens on Base are burned, which signals the vault on Solana to release the native SOL back to the user. This process is supported by technical structures like Merkle trees to ensure efficient and verifiable proofs of transaction across chains. The utility of Base Bridged SOL lies in its ability to bring Solana-based liquidity into the Base ecosystem. This allows users to participate in decentralized finance, NFT platforms, and other on-chain applications on Base using their Solana assets. Several decentralized applications, including Aerodrome and Zora, have adopted the bridge to allow their users to trade and utilize these cross-chain assets natively. The launch of this bridge marks a significant milestone in blockchain interoperability, as it connects one of the most active Ethereum Layer 2 networks directly with the Solana ecosystem. While the project has prompted debates about how liquidity flows between different networks, its primary focus is on simplifying the user experience and providing developers with the tools to build applications that can tap into multiple blockchain networks simultaneously. By removing the need for complex multi-step processes or third-party exchanges, the project aims to create a more unified and accessible environment for both builders and users. Learn more

BASE BRIDGED SOL (BASE) (SOL) FAQ

Base Bridged SOL is an ERC-20 token on the Base network that is 1:1 backed by native SOL locked on the Solana blockchain. This allows holders to utilize their SOL within the Base decentralized finance ecosystem. It is the canonical bridged version launched by the Base team using secure cross-chain interoperability infrastructure.
The official contract address for Base Bridged SOL on the Base network is 0x311935cd80b76769bf2ecc9d8ab7635b2139cf82. Users should use this address to manually import the token into their EVM-compatible wallets if it does not automatically appear after bridging.
Users can move SOL to Base by using the official bridge interface or supported cross-chain applications. You must connect both a Solana-compatible wallet and an EVM-compatible wallet. Once the native SOL is locked on Solana, the equivalent amount is minted on Base. Transactions typically process in under two minutes, though network congestion can occasionally affect timing.
Bridging involves Solana network fees to lock assets and Base network fees to mint the tokens, along with a small relay fee for cross-chain messaging. Importantly, SOL cannot be used to pay for transaction gas on Base. Even if you hold SOL on the network, you must have Ethereum (ETH) to cover gas fees for any transactions.
Base Bridged SOL is integrated into several key areas of the Base network. Its primary utility is within decentralized exchanges (DEXs), where users can provide liquidity to various pools to earn rewards. It is also compatible with various ecosystem applications, including NFT platforms and decentralized social apps.
The bridge is secured by the Chainlink Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and professional infrastructure. It is managed by a modular system of validators. While these measures provide high security, users should remain aware of standard smart contract risks associated with cross-chain protocols, which involve the possibility of technical vulnerabilities in the bridge code.
