What is ALLOY TETHER (AUSDT)?

Alloy Tether (aUSDT) is a digital asset launched by Tether in June 2024. It is described as a gold-backed stablecoin and a "Tethered Asset" that is pegged to the U.S. dollar. The primary characteristic of aUSDT is that it is overcollateralized by Tether Gold (XAUt). Tether Gold (XAUt) is a separate token that represents ownership of physical gold. This means that more gold is held as collateral than the value of the aUSDT tokens issued, aiming to provide a safety net and enhance stability. Alloy Tether functions as a "synthetic dollar", designed to mimic the value and utility of the U.S. dollar without being directly backed by it. Users can mint aUSDT tokens by depositing Tether Gold (XAUt) as collateral through smart contracts and price oracles on the Ethereum mainnet. This process allows individuals to engage in digital transactions, payments, and remittances using a dollar-referenced currency while still maintaining their exposure to gold. The development of Alloy by Tether was carried out by Tether subsidiaries Moon Gold NA, SA de CV and Moon Gold El Salvador, SA de CV.
