Aave MKR v1, known by its token symbol amkr, is an interest-bearing token within the Aave protocol. It is created when users deposit the underlying Maker (MKR) token into an Aave market. Upon deposit, amkr tokens are minted and are burned when the underlying MKR is withdrawn. The amkr token is designed to be pegged at a 1:1 ratio to the value of the MKR token that has been deposited into the Aave protocol. Like other aTokens in the Aave ecosystem, amkr represents the amount of crypto assets supplied by a user and the yield earned on those assets. This yield is accrued directly by continuously increasing the token holder's balance within their wallet. This means that over time, the quantity of amkr tokens a user holds will increment upwards to reflect the interest earned from borrowers. Aave itself is a decentralized, non-custodial liquidity protocol that enables users to lend and borrow various crypto assets. The Aave v1 version of the protocol introduced a shared liquidity pool model, allowing for more efficient financial operations. The underlying MKR token is the governance token for MakerDAO, another prominent decentralized finance protocol primarily known for its stablecoin, DAI.
