Polygon is set to activate its Giugliano hardfork on mainnet on April 8, aiming to enable faster finality.

The Polygon Foundation confirmed Monday in a post on X that the Giugliano upgrade is scheduled to occur at block number 85,268,500, at roughly 2:00 p.m. UTC on Wednesday.

"This upgrade enables faster finality by letting producers announce blocks earlier, adds fee parameters directly in block headers, and introduces new RPC support for fee data," the team said.

This upgrade was run on the Amoy testnet last month, demonstrating a 2-second reduction in finality. The team noted that node operators must update Bor to v2.7.0 or Erigon to v3.5.0 before the activation block.

The hardfork is part of Polygon's "Gigagas" roadmap to scale throughput to improve user experience for payments and real-world assets.

The focus on network performance and faster finality follows a series of stability issues on Polygon last year. In September, it rolled out a hardfork to address a finality bug that caused transaction delays. Also in July, a validator exit triggered a bug in the Heimdall system, which led to a one-hour disruption of the network.
