Wrapped FIO (wFIO) is a tokenized representation of the native FIO token, operating on the Ethereum blockchain. It is designed to facilitate the transfer of liquidity between the FIO Protocol network and the Ethereum network in a decentralized way. WFIO tokens are backed by FIO tokens at a 1:1 ratio. Being ERC-20 compliant, wFIO can be fully integrated into the broader Ethereum ecosystem. This allows for its use in decentralized finance (DeFi) applications and decentralized exchanges, such as Uniswap. The process of "wrapping" FIO tokens involves sending them to an escrow contract on the FIO Chain. A group of oracles, managed by FIO Block Producers, detects these wrapped tokens and then mints an equivalent amount of wFIO on the Ethereum network, sending it to the user's specified Ethereum public address. The reverse process, "unwrapping," allows users to move wFIO back to the FIO Chain. The underlying FIO Protocol is a decentralized, open-source solution aimed at simplifying cryptocurrency transactions across various blockchains. It achieves this by replacing complex, long-string wallet addresses with human-readable "FIO Crypto Handles," formatted as username@domain. These handles can be used to send, receive, request, and sign any type of cryptocurrency transaction, similar to sending an email. The FIO Protocol's mission is to enhance the usability of cryptocurrency and minimize human error in transactions. FIO Crypto Handles are secured as nested NFTs on the FIO Chain. FIO Domains offer customization for these handles and can also be wrapped as ERC-721 tokens on Polygon, enabling their trading on NFT marketplaces.
