TRU is the native governance and utility token for the TrueFi protocol, built on the Ethereum blockchain. Holders can stake TRU to participate in credit assessments, vote on loan approvals, and influence protocol parameters. This mechanism rewards participation and aligns incentives across lenders, borrowers, and the protocol. TRU is primarily utilized for staking to earn rewards and for governance, enabling holders to vote on crucial decisions, such as approving new managers and borrowers.
TrueFi addresses the critical need for uncollateralized lending within the DeFi ecosystem, which was largely absent in decentralized finance's early stages. Traditional DeFi often demands over-collateralization, inefficiently tying up substantial capital. In the event of a default, 10% of the staked TRU tokens are utilized to protect lenders. Additionally, the TrueFi SAFU (Secure Asset Fund for Users) can deploy its reserve funds to provide further coverage to affected lenders. TrueFi mandates strict Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) transparency, along with legal contracts, from all borrowers. While borrowers can maintain some privacy, they must complete KYC/AML procedures, and their identity would be publicly disclosed should they default on their obligations.
TrueFi primarily supports leading stablecoins such as USDT, USDC, and TUSD within its lending pools. Initially focusing on crypto-native borrowers, the platform has expanded its scope to incorporate real-world applications. This includes providing financial opportunities in diverse sectors like fintech financing, lending for gig workers, and real estate investments, showcasing its versatility beyond pure crypto markets.
