Despite its initial growth and high-profile partnerships, the project faced significant challenges. In May 2023, the leadership announced that Unbanked would wind down its operations. The founders cited a combination of a harsh regulatory environment in the United States and the failure of a planned investment round to materialize as the primary reasons for the closure.
