What is SUNDAESWAP (SUNDAE)?

SundaeSwap is a decentralized exchange, also known as a DEX, that operates on the Cardano blockchain. It functions as an Automated Market Maker, or AMM, which allows for the automated trading of digital assets without the need for traditional intermediaries. SundaeSwap aims to be a leading DEX within the Cardano ecosystem, providing a platform for users to exchange various tokens and ADA. The project's goal is to decentralize access to financial services. It enables users to trade, stake, and lend tokens directly on the platform. SundaeSwap is built upon Cardano's unique eUTXO model and utilizes smart contracts developed with Plutus/Haskell. More recently, it has introduced V3 smart contracts using Aiken to enhance efficiency and scalability. The native token of the platform is SUNDAE. This token serves both utility and governance purposes. SUNDAE token holders have the ability to vote on future protocol changes and receive a share of platform revenues. Additionally, holding SUNDAE tokens can provide users with fee discounts on trades. The distribution of SUNDAE tokens occurred through an Initial Stake Pool Offering, or ISO, where users received SUNDAE by staking their ADA in designated pools. SundaeSwap emphasizes security through decentralized governance and cryptographic measures. The platform also implements solutions like "Scoopers" to help with transaction aggregation and scalability, addressing some of the challenges of operating a DEX on a blockchain like Cardano. SUNDAESWAP (SUNDAE) FAQ

SundaeSwap is a decentralized exchange (DEX) operating on the Cardano blockchain. Its main objective is to offer decentralized access to financial services and facilitate profit distribution. It functions as a scalable exchange protocol with automatic liquidity provision, powered by immutable, permissionless, and decentralized smart contracts developed using Plutus, Cardano's native smart contract language.
The SUNDAE token serves as both a utility and governance token for the SundaeSwap protocol. Holders can actively participate in decision-making by voting on new features and determining the future direction of the protocol. Additionally, token holders are entitled to receive a share of the platform's revenues, proportional to the amount of SUNDAE tokens they possess.
A total of 2 billion SUNDAE tokens were minted. 55% of the total supply is allocated to the public, with 5% distributed through an Initial Stake Pool Offering (ISO) over five epochs. The remaining allocations include 25% for the team, 13% for investors, and 2% for advisors, with an additional 5% reserved for future hires. Team and investor tokens are subject to vesting periods of 4 years and 2 years, respectively, to ensure long-term commitment.
SUNDAE tokens were initially distributed via an Initial Stake Pool Offering (ISO), where users earned tokens by staking Cardano (ADA) in specific pools. Users can also earn SUNDAE by providing liquidity to SUNDAE/XX trading pairs on the decentralized exchange and through various yield farming initiatives. To purchase SUNDAE directly, users need ADA in a Cardano native wallet and can connect it to the SundaeSwap DEX to trade for the SUNDAE/ADA pair.
SundaeSwap's launch as the first functional decentralized exchange (DEX) on Cardano generated considerable excitement and activity within the ecosystem. This significantly increased transaction volume on the Cardano platform. At one point, SundaeSwap accounted for approximately 98% of the total value locked (TVL) in Cardano smart contracts, demonstrating its substantial influence and role in pioneering decentralized finance on Cardano.
While decentralized exchanges like SundaeSwap eliminate intermediary costs, they still incur transaction fees, which can sometimes be comparable to or even higher than those on centralized platforms. Early in its operation, SundaeSwap experienced a backlog where transaction orders could take significant time to process, though the team provided assurances about fair processing. These challenges highlight common scalability and performance considerations for decentralized finance platforms.
