StellaSwap Staked DOT, or stDOT, is a liquid staking derivative token developed by StellaSwap. It represents a user's share of the total DOT.xc (Polkadot's cross-chain token) pool that has been deposited with StellaSwap. When users stake their DOT.xc tokens through StellaSwap, they immediately receive newly minted stDOT in return. This liquid staking mechanism simplifies the traditional Polkadot staking process. Users do not need to manage validator nominations, monitor yields, or endure the typical unbonding period associated with direct Polkadot staking. StellaSwap handles the delegation of DOT to selected validators on the Polkadot network. A key benefit of stDOT is its liquidity; users can instantly exchange stDOT for DOT at any time. As the underlying DOT delegation accrues rewards, the value of the stDOT token increases over time. Unlike rebasing tokens where the balance changes, stDOT is a yield-bearing token, reflecting accrued yields through changes in its token value. This design choice facilitates easier integration of stDOT across various decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, allowing for additional use cases such as providing liquidity, lending, or borrowing. StellaSwap applies a 10% fee on the staking rewards generated from the DOT delegation. The project relaunched stDOT following the sunsetting of Lido's liquid staked DOT, aiming to restore and enhance its role in the ecosystem.
