Holders of st-yETH possess governance rights, enabling them to vote on decisions regarding the composition of the pool and various protocol parameters, which are periodically adjusted to enhance yield generation and manage associated risks. For example, st-yETH can serve as collateral to borrow digital assets within other decentralized finance protocols such as FiRM. A significant event in the project's history is that the yETH pool has been paused due to a security incident. This incident involved an exploit that leveraged a vulnerability in the protocol's internal accounting system, which allowed for the creation of an excessive number of yETH tokens. The vulnerability originated from cached storage values that were not properly reset after the pool was emptied, leading the protocol to interpret these phantom balances as legitimate deposits when a minimal amount of new funds was introduced.
