What is STAFI (FIS)?

StaFi, short for Staking Finance, is a decentralized protocol designed to address the liquidity challenges found in Proof of Stake blockchain networks. In traditional staking models, users must lock their assets for a set period to earn rewards and secure the network, which prevents those assets from being used for other purposes. StaFi solves this by offering a liquid staking service that allows users to maintain liquidity while their original assets remain staked. The core innovation of the protocol is the use of rTokens, which are representative staking derivatives. When a user stakes a supported asset such as Ethereum, Polkadot, or Cosmos through the platform, they receive an equivalent amount of rTokens, such as rETH or rDOT. These rTokens act as a receipt of the staked position and can be traded on exchanges, used as collateral in other decentralized finance applications, or transferred across different blockchains. Meanwhile, the original staked assets continue to generate rewards, which are typically reflected in the increasing value or quantity of the rTokens held by the user. Technologically, StaFi is built using the Substrate framework, which provides it with inherent cross-chain interoperability and the ability to connect with various ecosystems. The architecture includes specific components like Liquid Staking Vaults and a bridge system to facilitate the movement of assets between different networks. This modular design allows the project to scale its liquid staking solutions to many different Proof of Stake chains. The FIS token is the native utility and governance token of the StaFi ecosystem. It serves several critical functions within the network: 1. Governance: FIS holders can participate in the decision making process of the protocol. This includes proposing and voting on upgrades, changes to fee structures, and the addition of new staking assets. 2. Network Security: Validators and nominators use FIS to secure the network. By staking FIS, these participants help maintain the integrity of the StaFi chain and are rewarded for their contribution to network stability. 3. Transaction Fees: Users pay fees in FIS for various actions on the platform, such as minting and redeeming rTokens or conducting transactions on the StaFi chain. In summary, StaFi acts as a bridge between the staking economy and the broader decentralized finance world, allowing users to earn network rewards without sacrificing the ability to use their capital. The project focuses on decentralization, cross-chain compatibility, and enhancing the utility of staked assets across the blockchain industry. Learn more

STAFI (FIS) FAQ

StaFi (Short for Staking Finance) is a decentralized protocol providing liquid staking services. It addresses the "Liquidity Dilemma" inherent in traditional Proof of Stake (PoS) systems, where assets are typically locked for a specific period, preventing their use in other applications. StaFi solves this by issuing "rTokens" (such as rETH or rDOT) that represent the staked value. These rTokens remain immediately tradable and usable in DeFi while the underlying assets continue to earn staking rewards, effectively unlocking the liquidity of staked capital.
FIS is the native utility and governance token of the StaFi protocol. Its primary functions include governance, allowing holders to vote on protocol upgrades and fee structures. It is also used for network security, as validators and nominators stake FIS to secure the StaFi Chain. Additionally, FIS is used to pay for transaction fees and rToken minting or redemption fees. The protocol also incorporates deflationary mechanics, such as fee-sharing and buyback-burn strategies, to manage the token supply over time.
Users mint rTokens by depositing native PoS assets into StaFi staking contracts. The exchange rate between an rToken and its underlying asset is not 1:1 because staking rewards are automatically accumulated and reflected in the rToken's value. Over time, 1 rToken will be redeemable for more than 1 unit of the native asset as rewards grow. When a user decides to redeem their assets, the rTokens are burned, and the native assets are returned after the original blockchain’s unbonding period.
FIS is the native utility, security, and governance token used specifically for the StaFi chain's operations and consensus. In contrast, rTokens are liquid staking derivatives or "reward tokens" issued by the protocol to represent assets staked on other chains. While FIS powers the StaFi infrastructure, rTokens (like rATOM or rETH) are the tools that provide users with liquidity for their staked positions across various external PoS networks.
Users can transfer FIS between the native StaFi Chain and other networks like Ethereum or BSC using the official StaFi Bridge. If users encounter issues connecting their wallet to the rToken App, they should ensure the wallet is set to the correct network, clear their browser cache, or disable adblockers that might interfere with the connection. Using supported browser extensions and keeping them updated is recommended for a smooth interaction with the protocol.
Liquid Staking Vaults (LSVs) are part of StaFi's "LSD-as-a-Service" initiative, allowing other projects to build custom liquid staking solutions using StaFi’s infrastructure. Security is a top priority, with the protocol undergoing multiple audits by firms like PeckShield and CertiK. To protect against validator slashing, StaFi utilizes multi-validator pools. For those looking to trade FIS, it remains available on major exchanges like LBank. Community members can also participate in the StaFi DAO to influence protocol security and development.
