The protocol operates through a decentralized validator set. When a strategy provider determines a need for a rebalance or a change in position, they send a recommendation to the Sommelier network. Validators reach a consensus on these instructions before they are transmitted across a bridge to the destination network where the actual assets are held. This architecture ensures that while the logic and calculations happen off-chain or on the Sommelier chain, the users' funds remain securely in the original vaults on their native networks. The SOMM token is the native utility asset of the Sommelier network. It serves several critical functions: Network Security: As a Proof-of-Stake blockchain, Sommelier relies on users staking SOMM tokens to validators to secure the network and process transactions. Governance: SOMM holders can participate in the governance of the protocol. This includes voting on the onboarding of new strategists, the activation of new Cellars, and the management of the community treasury. Transaction Fees: The token is used to pay for transaction and gas fees on the Sommelier blockchain. Sommelier distinguishes itself by offering a non-custodial environment where strategy providers never have direct access to user funds. The project was co-founded by prominent figures in the Cosmos ecosystem, including Zaki Manian, and emphasizes a community-driven approach to decentralized asset management.
