Real Ether, often referred to as reETH, is associated with a modular Ethereum Layer-2 scaling platform named re.al. This platform is built using Arbitrum Orbit technology. Its primary goal is to address common challenges in blockchain systems by offering faster transaction speeds, significantly lower gas costs, and increased transaction capacity, all while upholding the robust security standards of the main Ethereum network. The reETH token serves as the native gas token for the re.al chain. It is entirely backed by Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) within the platform's native bridge. This design ensures that all Ether (ETH) that is bridged to the re.al platform automatically earns staking yield. reETH is designed to be value-accruing, meaning its value increases in relation to ETH as staking yield accumulates for the token. On the re.al network, reETH functions similarly to ETH on the Ethereum mainnet or other Ethereum Layer-2 solutions, with the key distinction that it accrues value from staking. Transactions on the re.al platform, including gas fee payments, token swaps, and asset transfers, are processed using reETH at considerably lower costs compared to the Ethereum Layer-1. When users bridge ETH to re.al, the ETH is deposited into a vault where it begins earning staking yield on the Ethereum Layer-1. Subsequently, new reETH tokens are minted and transferred to the user's wallet on re.al. Conversely, withdrawing funds involves burning reETH and unstaking the corresponding ETH. It is worth noting that some older information also refers to a "REETH (Rebasing Ethereum)" token from 2021, developed by Stabilize Protocol. This earlier project aimed to target the price of Ethereum through daily rebases, adjusting its supply accordingly.
