PulseChain (PLS) is a layer-1 blockchain project created by Richard Heart, who also founded the HEX cryptocurrency. It was designed to function as an improved version of the Ethereum network, aiming to address some of Ethereum's earlier challenges such as high transaction fees and energy consumption. PulseChain focuses on enhancing energy efficiency, lowering transaction costs, and maintaining compatibility with Ethereum's ecosystem. The network utilizes a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, which is less energy-intensive compared to Ethereum's original Proof-of-Work system. PulseChain aims to offer faster transaction times and lower fees, making it more affordable for users. It is built on a modified version of the Ethereum codebase, allowing for easy migration of Ethereum-based projects. The native token of PulseChain is PLS. It is used to pay for transaction fees, activate validators, and facilitate bridging to other chains. A significant aspect of its token distribution involved a "sacrifice" phase where users donated cryptocurrencies or fiat money to supported addresses or charities in exchange for PLS tokens. Additionally, a snapshot of the Ethereum network was taken, and Ethereum users received a free copy of their tokens and NFTs on the PulseChain network, effectively duplicating their assets. These "freemium" PLS tokens received by Ethereum holders can be used to pay for transactions but cannot be transferred or sold. PulseChain also features a burning mechanism where a portion of transaction fees paid in PLS is burned, reducing the token's circulating supply over time.
