The process of creating this token involved locking original Ethereum assets in a smart contract on one chain and then minting an equivalent amount of the bridged version on the Moonriver network. This allowed for cross-chain interoperability, giving users the ability to move value between disparate blockchain environments without needing to sell their original holdings. The Multichain protocol, which facilitated this bridge, faced significant operational and security issues in mid-2023.
