What is MARMARA CREDIT LOOPS (MCL)?

Marmara Credit Loops (MCL) is a Web3 project described as a pioneering Decentralized Finance (DeFi) system designed to operate within the real economy. The project's core purpose is to facilitate seamless financial transactions, support local businesses, and enhance credit accessibility through a transparent, decentralized credit system. It aims to digitize and improve upon traditional credit mechanisms, particularly drawing inspiration from post-dated cheques and promissory notes, which are widely used in various economies. MCL was officially launched in 2021, although its conceptual framework began in 2016, with origins tracing back to 2010 to explore interest-free, peer-to-peer credit alternatives. The project's test chain studies were conducted in 2019, and the Marmara Blockchain began operations in January 2020. The MCL system operates on its own independent smart chain, leveraging Komodo Platform technologies. It utilizes a UTXO-based Turing Complete Smart Contracting system and is secured by Komodo's dPoW (delayed Proof of Work) technology, which recycles Bitcoin's hash power to protect against 51% attacks. Some descriptions also mention it initially operating on the Ethereum blockchain and later a hybrid consensus mechanism combining Proof-of-Stake and creditworthiness evaluations, or Proof of Authority for network security. A central feature of Marmara Credit Loops is its "credit loop" system, which allows users to issue, endorse, and settle credit with transparency. This system is designed to reward both buyers and sellers when they engage in shopping using credit loops instead of cash. The MCL token has both mineable (25%) and stakeable (75%) components integrated with two DeFi protocols. A key aspect of its staking model involves "Activated" and "Locked in Credit Loop" (LCL) funds, where coins locked in LCL funds can provide 3x staking rewards for both credit issuers and holders, and importantly, can circulate while locked for staking. This mechanism aims to address the problem of non-redemption prevalent in traditional credit systems. Marmara Credit Loops positions itself as an open-source, universal system capable of supporting consumer purchasing power and facilitating an alternative, interest-free credit system. Learn more

MARMARA CREDIT LOOPS (MCL) FAQ

MCL is a pioneering Decentralized Finance (DeFi) system operating on its independent blockchain, MarmaraChain. It digitizes traditional credit instruments like post-dated checks and promissory notes, ensuring 100% collateralization at issuance to prevent non-redemption. Originating from Marmara University workshops, the project leverages Komodo Blockchain Technologies for its foundation.
MCL operates via a 'Credit Loop' system where issued credit is 100% collateralized by the issuer. Both the issuer and holder within a loop can earn rewards with a 3x staking mechanism. These credits circulate for goods and services until maturity, acting as digital money. The system features two protocols: Protocol 1 offers trustless, 100% collateralized transactions, while Protocol 2 incorporates escrows and communities for trust-based, potentially under- or zero-collateralized transactions.
MCL aims to resolve the widespread issue of non-redemption, or 'bouncing,' common in traditional credit instruments such as post-dated checks and promissory notes. It achieves this by mandating 100% collateralization within its primary protocol and integrating a distributed insurance mechanism to safeguard against defaults, thereby fostering a more secure and transparent credit system.
Users can earn MCL rewards by actively participating in credit loops during transactions. Both buyers and sellers in these loops are eligible for block rewards, enhanced by a 3x staking power until the credit loop matures. This staking power applies to activated or locked coins within the loops. Additionally, MCL supports mining through the Equihash algorithm, contributing 25% of block rewards, with the remaining 75% allocated to Proof of Stake.
MCL stands out due to its direct application in the real economy and its innovative decentralized credit system. It facilitates seamless financial transactions and supports local businesses, particularly within the Marmara region, promoting economic growth. Unlike many cryptocurrencies, MCL integrates credit scoring and decentralized finance, enabling users to leverage their credit history for improved loan terms. Its unique hybrid consensus mechanism merges proof-of-stake with creditworthiness evaluations for enhanced functionality.
MCL's future roadmap encompasses advanced smart contract capabilities, comprehensive educational workshops, and forging partnerships with financial institutions to integrate blockchain solutions into conventional finance. Key initiatives also include furthering Protocol 2 development and establishing platforms for escrow services in 2025, aiming for broader adoption and utility within the ecosystem.
