Its functions include facilitating governance, covering transaction fees (gas fees), enabling staking to secure the network, providing payment for on-chain AI computation services, and licensing infrastructure modules and sovereign chain frameworks. The KPG token draws inspiration from the traditional Balinese Kepeng coin, which symbolizes trust and connection. The Mandala Chain Foundation (MCF) oversees the ecosystem's development and plans to transition to a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) model. The testnet for Mandala Chain was launched in January 2025, with the mainnet anticipated in the second quarter of 2025.
