Additionally, a minimum collateral ratio ensures that the system remains overcollateralized, meaning the value of the Ether backing the tokens exceeds the value of the tokens in circulation. A significant feature of the Liquity protocol is its focus on decentralization and immutability. Unlike many other decentralized finance projects, the Liquity smart contracts are non-upgradable. This means that no individual or group has the power to alter the rules, change the collateral requirements, or freeze user funds. The protocol operates autonomously, governed by pre-set code rather than human intervention or governance voting processes. To protect the system from market volatility, Liquity uses a Stability Pool. This pool is filled with LUSD provided by users who act as a first line of defense. When a Trove falls below the required collateral level, the system uses tokens from the Stability Pool to pay off the debt, while the collateral from the liquidated Trove is distributed to those who provided tokens to the pool.
