Users can lend different assets to earn passive income, while others can borrow assets, typically in an overcollateralized manner. The interest rates for borrowing and lending are determined algorithmically, adjusting based on the utilization level of the lending pools. Asset pricing within Geist Finance is established using oracle services such as Chainlink and Band. Geist Finance allows holders of FTM, Fantom's native token, to use their FTM as collateral to obtain liquidity by borrowing other assets. FTM itself plays several roles within the Fantom network, including securing the network through staking, facilitating governance, enabling payments, and covering transaction fees. The native token of the Geist protocol is GEIST. Unlike many other tokens, GEIST functions as a revenue-sharing token rather than a governance token. The protocol is designed without a central governance body or treasury. Instead, 50 percent of all revenue generated from lending activities is distributed directly to users who stake their GEIST tokens. Both lenders and borrowers on the platform are incentivized with GEIST rewards to encourage participation. These rewards are subject to a three-month vesting period, though users have the option to claim them earlier by incurring a 50 percent penalty, which is then distributed among those who have staked their GEIST long-term.
