What is BIFROST (BNC)?

Bifrost is a decentralized web3 derivatives protocol designed to provide cross chain liquidity for staked assets. Built primarily as a parachain within the Polkadot ecosystem, it also operates on the Kusama network. The project aims to solve the common issue in proof of stake blockchains where tokens are locked during the staking process, making them illiquid and unavailable for use in other applications. The core of the Bifrost protocol is its liquid staking mechanism. When users stake their assets through the platform, such as Polkadot or Ethereum, they receive derivative tokens known as vTokens in return. These vTokens represent the underlying staked assets and the rewards they earn. Unlike the original assets, vTokens are liquid and can be traded or used across various decentralized finance applications while the original tokens remain staked and secure. Bifrost utilizes several key protocols to achieve its goals. The Staking Liquid Protocol focuses on generating these liquid derivatives for various proof of stake blockchains. Another feature, the Slot Auction Liquid Protocol, was developed to provide liquidity for assets locked in parachain slot auctions, allowing participants to access the value of their contributions during long lease periods. The protocol relies on Polkadot's Cross Consensus Message format to enable seamless interoperability between different blockchain networks. The native utility token of the project is known as the Bifrost Native Coin, or BNC. This token serves several vital functions within the ecosystem. It is used to pay for transaction fees on the network and acts as the primary governance token, allowing holders to vote on protocol upgrades, parameter changes, and treasury expenditures. BNC holders can also participate in staking to help secure the network and influence the distribution of incentives across the platform's various liquid staking products. By bridging the gap between staking and liquidity, Bifrost seeks to increase the capital efficiency of assets in the proof of stake landscape. It provides a standardized layer for interest bearing derivatives, allowing users to earn staking rewards without losing the ability to participate in the broader web3 and decentralized finance ecosystem. Through its use of the Substrate framework and cross chain messaging, the project positions itself as a foundational piece of infrastructure for the multi chain future of blockchain technology. BIFROST (BNC) FAQ

bbBNC (Buy Back BNC) is an escrow token representing a user's share in the Bifrost protocol's profits. To obtain it, users must first stake BNC to receive vBNC. This vBNC is then locked for a specific duration, ranging from 3 to 48 months. This mechanism is designed to align long-term holders with the protocol’s growth and prevent immediate selling of rewards, similar to the vote-escrowed models used by major decentralized finance platforms.
Bifrost utilizes 100% of its protocol profits to generate yield for holders. These profits are used to buy back BNC tokens from the open market. 90% of these repurchased tokens are distributed directly to bbBNC holders as rewards, while the remaining 10% are permanently burned. This model moves away from token inflation and instead relies on actual protocol revenue to reward participants.
BNC has a fixed total supply of 80,000,000 tokens. Unlike many liquid staking protocols that rely on continuous minting, BNC is not inflationary. The Tokenomics 2.0 structure is designed to be deflationary because 10% of all protocol-purchased BNC is permanently removed from circulation through a burn mechanism. This ensures a capped supply while rewarding long-term ecosystem participants.
Unlike some liquid staking providers where the token balance in your wallet increases over time, Bifrost uses a Reward-Bearing model. When holding vTokens like vDOT or vETH, your balance remains the same, but the exchange rate between the vToken and the underlying asset increases as rewards accumulate. Furthermore, Bifrost supports the conversion of various Ethereum-native liquid staking tokens into vETH, allowing users to capture yields within the Polkadot ecosystem.
As a Polkadot Parachain, Bifrost inherits the shared security of the Polkadot Relay Chain. To mitigate the risks associated with traditional third-party bridges, Bifrost utilizes Cross-Consensus Messaging (XCM). This is a native, trustless communication protocol that allows for secure interactions between chains. By using XCM, the protocol avoids the common vulnerabilities found in "wrapped asset" bridge hacks, providing a more secure environment for cross-chain liquid staking.
Bifrost is unifying its Polkadot and Kusama parachain operations into a single Omni-chain infrastructure. This transition is intended to concentrate liquidity and simplify the user experience by merging previously separate environments. By creating a unified architecture, Bifrost can more efficiently manage cross-chain utility and provide a streamlined interface for users to access liquid staking services across multiple blockchain networks.
