Auton (ATN) is the native utility token of the Autonity network, an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible, public, Proof-of-Stake (PoS) Layer 1 blockchain. The Autonity project is designed to serve as a decentralized infrastructure for the clearing and trading of smart derivatives contracts, aiming to create borderless markets and manage risk factors effectively. The Autonity network utilizes a dual-token model consisting of Auton (ATN) and Newton (NTN). Auton (ATN) acts as a stable value token and is primarily used as the unit of account for on-chain transaction fees, also known as gas fees, within the Autonity ecosystem. To maintain its stability, ATN employs the Auton Stabilization Mechanism (ASM). This mechanism adjusts the token's supply and demand based on a weighted basket of seven different fiat currencies, rather than being pegged to a single asset. The ASM also incorporates Collateralized Debt Positions (CDPs), which allow users to borrow ATN by depositing NTN or Liquid Newton (LNTN) as collateral. Newton (NTN) is the staking token for the Autonity network. It plays a crucial role in securing the network through its Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism and is also used for network governance. Validators receive their staking rewards in ATN. Additionally, NTN can be used as collateral to borrow ATN. Liquid Newton (LNTN) is a liquid staking token that represents staked NTN, offering more flexibility for users. Technologically, Autonity is EVM-compatible and operates on a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, utilizing the Tendermint Byzantine Fault-Tolerant consensus protocol. It boasts a one-second block time and supports a maximum of 100 validators. The project has been undergoing development on its testnets, Piccadilly and Bakerloo, as it prepares for its mainnet launch. Autonity's overarching vision is to provide a decentralized and interconnected market for smart derivatives products, facilitating price discovery and trade execution while addressing inefficiencies present in traditional derivatives markets.
