What is ATOMONE (ATONE)?

AtomOne is a community-driven and constitutionally governed blockchain project that originated as a minimal fork of the Cosmos Hub, also known as Gaia. The project was conceived following significant governance debates within the Cosmos ecosystem, particularly regarding the direction of the original hub. Its primary goal is to provide a security-conscious and decentralized alternative that adheres to the original minimalist vision of the Cosmos whitepaper. The project operates using a dual-token system. The ATONE token serves as the primary native asset for staking and governance. It is used by participants to secure the network and vote on protocol decisions. The second token, PHOTON, is designed specifically to handle transaction fees and interchain payments. PHOTON is intended to be a non-inflationary asset created through a one-way burn mechanism of ATONE tokens. This separation of utility is meant to ensure that transaction costs remain stable without compromising the security provided by the staking token. A central feature of AtomOne is its formal on-chain constitution. This document establishes the foundational rules and values of the network, ensuring that governance is transparent and predictable. Unlike many other networks where validators hold significant influence over governance via delegated power, AtomOne emphasizes a more direct form of voting for individual stakers to prevent power concentration. The ecosystem is managed by various decentralized autonomous organizations, such as a Steering DAO and an Oversight DAO, which handle treasury management and ensure compliance with the constitution without the need for a centralized foundation. Technologically, AtomOne focuses on Inter-Blockchain Communication and Interchain Security. It aims to act as a neutral, reliable hub for the interchain ecosystem, allowing other application-specific blockchains to leverage its validator set for security while maintaining their own sovereignty. By maintaining a minimalist design, the project seeks to reduce technical complexity and potential attack vectors, positioning itself as a secure coordination layer for the broader Web3 landscape. In the long term, AtomOne is intended to complement the existing Cosmos Hub by serving as a conservative political and technical base that prioritizes high security and community-led evolution. ATOMONE (ATONE) FAQ

ATOM, associated with the Cosmos Hub, is evolving as a feature-rich asset supporting liquidity and smart contracts. ATONE, from the AtomOne fork, is a minimalist asset focused strictly on being a secure, high-staking-ratio 'router' for the interchain. It adheres to an original vision, rejecting features like liquid staking at the protocol level to maximize security and stability.
ATONE was distributed directly to eligible wallet addresses at the project's genesis, based on a snapshot of ATOM holders. You don't 'claim' it in the traditional sense. To view your balance, you need to add the AtomOne chain to a compatible interchain wallet, such as Keplr or Leap. If you still don't see your tokens, ensure AtomOne is enabled in your wallet's chain visibility settings.
AtomOne employs a dual-token system. ATONE is the primary token used solely for staking and governance, designed to be illiquid to maximize security. PHOTON, on the other hand, is the transactional fee token (gas) required to pay for operations on the network. To acquire PHOTON, users must initiate a one-way conversion by 'burning' ATONE, ensuring that the network's transactional fees are intrinsically linked to its core security token.
While Jae Kwon is a primary architect and initial contributor, AtomOne is structured as a community-governed project. Its governance relies on a written Constitution and a system of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), including Steering, Oversight, and Treasury DAOs. This model aims to establish strictly on-chain, decentralized decision-making, moving away from centralized foundation-led governance often seen in other protocols.
Currently, the most active venue for trading ATONE is on decentralized exchanges within the interchain ecosystem, primarily Osmosis, where you can find the `ATOM/ATONE` trading pair. While there are ongoing discussions about its listing on various centralized exchanges, it is generally found on decentralized platforms and select smaller centralized trading venues.
The ATONE distribution was executed as an 'opinionated fork,' meaning eligibility and allocation were tied to specific community actions. If you voted 'YES' on Cosmos Proposal #848, which aimed to reduce ATOM inflation, your ATONE allocation was significantly reduced or 'slashed.' The creators of AtomOne viewed this vote as potentially adversarial to the Cosmos Hub's security, and thus impacted the ATONE distribution based on that stance. Many users were unaware their voting history would influence their ATONE eligibility.
